The original structure of ECO Hanok, located in Dongmyeong-dong, Gwangju, was once an urban hanok left neglected. It now serves as a highly symbolic stage for practically addressing the significant issues of climate change and resource circulation within the broader context of urban decay and revitalization, challenges faced by almost every modern city. ECO Hanok is an experimental project, but also a legitimate architectural endeavor, woven into the urban fabric of Dongmyeong-dong and Gwangju. Thus, the before-and-after context of ECO Hanok holds meaningful implications as part of architectural intervention and urban evolution. Throughout the process, TechCapsule documented three stages—original form, repurposed wooden structures, and the final completion with new materials—by capturing 3D scans. As completion marks the beginning of a sustained evolutionary process, this digital archive of the past is anticipated to act as a lens that reflects the value of both the present and future.
